Covered: “Lucky” and “Digital Love”
So, we practically orgasmed when we heard about the two following covers: Lucky, the fantastic, summer pop song by Swedish crooners Lucky Twice, covered by The Tough Alliance, another of our favorite Sweden pop duos, and Digital Love, very possibly our favorite song ever by Daft Punk, covered by none other than Alphabeat (and a few other UK singers who we don’t really care much about).
The Tough Alliance really puts their own spin on Lucky. The electric, blissful pure pop sound of the original has disappeared and is replaced by a sort of contemplative longing; the song retains, however, the distinctive feel of a large grassy meadow in summer (see music video), only instead of doing cartwheels through the grass like the original, The Tough Alliance are meandering. It’s a really nice cover, check it out.
We had SUCH high hopes for the Alphabeat cover of Digital Love. More and more Alphabeat is feeling like one of our favorite bands of all time, and Digital Love is by far one of our favorite songs of all time. The combination seemed fail proof. Sigh. The cover is nice, but it’s nothing that we’ve been listening to on repeat over and over and over again. (We credit this to the presence of Leon Jean Marie and Frankmusik, who join Alphabeat in the cover.) It’s missing a certain energy that Daft Punk bring. Give the cover a listen below and decide for yourself. (Credit: PopJustice)

wonky, indeed…
alas, it is not all i want it to be. (fascination = way more the love of my life) but i’ve decided actually that i don’t mind it. in the grand scheme of things, not too shabby: daft punk is a pretty tough act to follow…
