Sally’s Alley: Micachu and the Shapes

London trio Micachu and the Shapes were one of the bands everyone to was buzzing about at SXSW last month, and their debut album “Jewellery” dropped March 9th in the UK to lots of great press too, and rightfully so.  Below you can check out the album’s lead single, Golden Phone, a fuzzy & funky track largely indicative of the entire album’s sound.  Lead Mica creates some pretty neat stuff here: it’s a new kind of pop, like Feist or Yelle splattered with a few different colors of paint, and with a little bit of grunge; it’s lots of chaotic, homemade beeps and clicks, digitally distorted with a largely pop influence.  We’ll sure we’ll be mentioning these guys again in the near future.

Music, Sally
