“Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do” from Major Lazer

The debut album from the partnership of mega producers Diplo and Switch, a.k.a. Major Lazer (apparanty an armless Jamaican commando veteran of the 1984 Secret Zombie War???) dropped this past Tuesday, and if you wanna dance this weekend, we’d suggest you pick this up sometime. According to Diplo, the project, which includes spots from Ms. Thing, Santigold, Amanda Blank & Einstein, sounds like “digital reggae and dancehall from Mars in the future.” The album is full of unpredictable, incredibly high-energy dancehall jams; these are, after all, the guys who produce for M.I.A., so if you’re fans of their mechanical clicks, electrocuted stutterings, and gun shots, grab this album. This isn’t to say that “Guns Don’t Kill People” is full of Paper Planes; while there’s certainly enough on this album to keep us happy, it doesn’t feel quite as hot as it might be. Grab the lead single from the new project, featuring Santigold below. Favorite tracks: Hold The Line, Jump Up, Keep It Goin’ Louder.
