The Very Best ft. Ezra Koenig – Warm Heart of Africa + debut mixtape

It’s time you met The Very Best, the absolutely awesome collaboration between Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya and European DJ duo Radioclit (Johan Karlberg and Etienne Tron). They are gearing up to release their debut album “Warm Heart of Africa” this fall, and below you can peep the title track to the album featuring Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend. The new song is fantastic; it combines the Paul-Simon-Graceland-era Afropop sensibility Vampire Weekend brought to their debut album and Mwamwaya’s beautiful vocals in his native tongue Chichewa. Catch it below; it’s breezy and perfect for the summer.
Don’t stop there, though. The Very Best haven’t been around for long but they’re making some of the most interesting music we’ve heard in a while. Mwamwaya met Radioclit when they bought a used bike from his second-hand furniture store in East London; they hit it off, and have been making music since. On their debut mixtape, “Esau Mwamwaya and Radioclit are the Very Best,” which dropped at the end of last year, they storm you with a parade of truly global sounds: influenced by marabi and kwaito, they fuse some of the hottest African sounds, Mwamwaya native tongue Chichewa, and Vampire Weekend, M.I.A., Michael Jackson, and The Beatles. You can’t miss this shit; it’s fantastic.
