“jj n° 2″ from jj

We haven’t had this kind of instant reaction to a new group in a very long time!! The intentionally cryptic new group jj, signed to Sincerely Yours, the label founded by our favorite Swedish duo The Tough Alliance, is an absolutely lovely sunny breath of fresh air, perfectly timed as the long summer days begin to shrink into the orange afternoons of fall. jj’s debut album “jj n° 2″ came out earlier this summer (their first 7″ single was “jj n° 1″), but we’ve just gotten our hands on the LP and we’re absolutely in love. It’s a short, wonderfully sweet & lush opus, nine tracks of island-ish rhythms and synth-pop, typical of some of our favorite Swedes like Air France and the softer side of TTA. With breezy female vocals at the helm (s0mewhat reminiscent of Camera Obscura’s Tracyanne Campbell), backed by bouncy percussion and rollicking sythns, (ecstasy even unexpectedly drops a sample of Lil Wayne’s Lollipop), jj is a fantastic new sound and one that will undoubtedly generate much buzz in the months to come. Check out two of our favorite tracks from the new album – they’re the first two from the album, and they’re pretty darn great.
