Lucy’s 5 Cents: Pink’s So What
Some bloggers are pitching this track as a comeback single, but Pink’s not really coming back from anything, musically: her last album, “I’m Not Dead”, if it’s not immediately obvious from the album title, was a comeback album, spawning a number of hits including Stupid Girls, Who Knew, and U + Ur Hand. No, this is just Pink’s new single, and it’s damn good, featuring a wonderful “na-na-na-na-na-na-na” bit, and a killer chorus. Download below.
The single, So What, is clearly a reaction to her failed marriage (eg, “I guess I just lost my husband, I don’t know where he went…“) and while Pink would like you to believe she’s coping with her divorce just fine, the presence of a vindictive, vengeful, amazing pop-rock song, in which she declares “I’m still a rock star, I got my rock moves, and I don’t need you tonight”, is evidence enough that she’s not handling the separation of assets as well as she could be, and that she does still, in fact, need you.
NB. If only Pink could handle the implosion of her personal life quite as well as she can take a promo pic, and chose a type face and font color to grace the So What single sleeve… because that’s one hell of a single sleeve!
